eSIM Activation in Turkey: What You Need to Know

Some iPhones and iPads purchased in Turkey have eSIM functionality disabled by default. If you activated your device after June 23, 2020, eSIM should already be enabled, and no further action is needed. However, if your device was purchased before this date, you may need to follow the steps below to manually enable eSIM.

How to Enable eSIM on Older Devices

Before proceeding, make sure to back up your device, as this process requires a full reset.

1. Back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud or your computer.

2. Update to the latest iOS or iPadOS version by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

3. Erase your device:

• Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.

• Tap Erase All Content and Settings.

• Enter your passcode or Apple ID password when prompted.

• Confirm the erase process.

4. Restore your device from backup once the reset is complete.

After restoring your device, eSIM functionality should be enabled, allowing you to install encryptSIM.

Turkey’s 91-Day Rule for Roaming Devices

According to Turkey’s local regulations, any device using roaming data services for 91 days (accumulated) or more within a 120-day period must be registered with the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). If you plan to use encryptSIM in Turkey for an extended period, check with CEIR for registration requirements to avoid connectivity issues.
